GrandTouch Keyboard with Linear Graded Hammers

The CVP-905 features Yamaha’s GrandTouch Keyboard with wooden keys across all 88 notes. Synthetic ivory key tops provide the natural moisture absorption and tactile feel that plastic cannot replicate. Synthetic ebony black keys add the matte, non-slip surface found on high-end acoustic instruments. Built-in escapement simulates the mechanical let-off of a concert grand’s repetition lever, allowing pianists to develop the precise finger control that transfers directly to acoustic performance.

The 88-key Linear Graded Hammer system weights each key individually across the full keyboard range, heavier in the bass and lighter in the treble, matching the response profile of a concert grand piano.

CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial

Two of the world’s most recorded concert grands are built into the CVP-905. Yamaha’s CFX flagship concert grand contributes a wide tonal palette from sparkling highs to powerful bass. The Bösendorfer Imperial delivers the warm, complex Viennese character that has defined chamber and orchestral piano repertoire for over a century. Both instruments were recorded key-by-key with binaural microphone arrays, capturing the spatial and tonal information that makes the sound natural through headphones.

Virtual Resonance Modeling and Grand Expression Modeling

Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) calculates string resonance across all 88 notes in real time, reproducing the sympathetic vibration that occurs naturally when multiple strings interact inside a grand piano. Grand Expression Modeling adds the subtle variations in tone that result from hammer velocity, key contact, and repetition speed: the expressive nuances that separate a great acoustic piano from a merely functional one.

1,315 Voices and 525 Accompaniment Styles

Beyond the core piano voices, the CVP-905 carries 1,315 preset voices, 49 Drum/SFX kits, and 480 XG voices. Accompaniment styles number 525, covering every major genre with six fingering modes and full style controls including three intros, four main variations, and three endings. One Touch Setting applies the correct voice and tempo for each selected style automatically. The 16-track recorder captures up to approximately 3 MB per song. USB audio recording outputs WAV and MP3.

Audio System and Connectivity

The CVP-905 drives two speaker enclosures, each containing a 16 cm woofer and 2.5 cm dome tweeter, through a (45 W + 20 W) x 2 amplifier system. Bluetooth Audio streams wirelessly from any paired device. Two USB TO DEVICE ports, one USB TO HOST port, MIDI IN/OUT/THRU, and two headphone jacks complete the connectivity. The built-in microphone input supports Vocal Harmony processing (54 preset + 60 user configurations).
