The HP702 is where most families start: a full weighted action and a serious sound engine in a cabinet that fits a normal room. The HP704 steps up to Roland’s PHA-50 hybrid action and a four-speaker Acoustic Projection system. The LX-5, LX-6 and LX-9 are the flagships, with deeper cabinets and progressively larger speaker arrays that put sound into the room the way an acoustic upright does rather than firing it at your knees.
The difference between an HP704 and an LX-5 is obvious within about ninety seconds at the bench and almost impossible to convey on a webpage. Both are set up in the showroom.
Roland’s GP series is renowned for sound and playability, and it appears on stages under some of the best musicians working today. Roland builds four GP models, separated by footprint, cabinet and capability.
The GP-3 has the smallest footprint in the range, a genuine grand silhouette for a room that cannot take a full baby grand. The GP-6 steps up in cabinet size and presence. The GP-9 is a full-size baby grand with the features a professional expects. The GP-9M is the GP-9 with moving keys, making it a true digital player piano that performs when nobody is at the bench.
