At five feet long, the GB1K is Yamaha’s most compact grand — and the most accessible entry into true grand piano ownership. Its V-Pro Vacuum Shield Mold frame, solid spruce soundboard, and individually hand-wound bass strings are built to Yamaha’s specifications, giving this small-footprint instrument a fullness of tone that consistently surprises first-time grand buyers. For the apartment, the smaller living room, or the practice space where a GC or CX simply won’t fit, the GB1K is how you bring a real Yamaha grand home.
Built in Kakegawa, Japan alongside Yamaha’s professional-tier instruments, the GC1M and GC2 occupy the sweet spot between home-scale and conservatory-grade. Both share the robust back post design, two-piece separated bridges, V-Pro frame, and hand-selected spruce soundboards sourced from Yamaha’s Kitami Mill in Hokkaido — delivering tuning stability, dynamic depth, and a richness of tone that rewards serious playing for decades. If you’ve outgrown a baby grand and aren’t yet shopping the CX, the GC is exactly where to look.
The CX Series carries Yamaha’s most recorded piano lineage forward, redesigned with innovations drawn from the flagship CFX concert grand. Spanning 5′3′′ to 7′6′′, every C1X through C7X features redesigned back posts, reshaped hammers, and Kitami-sourced spruce soundboards that give the CX its signature clarity of attack and expanded tonal range. Each instrument is built and voiced in Kakegawa, Japan by the same technicians who supply stages, recording studios, and conservatories worldwide. For the serious pianist, this is where Yamaha becomes unmistakable.
The SX Series sits one tier below Yamaha’s flagship CF — and shares far more with it than the price difference suggests. Every S3X, S5X, S6X, and S7X is almost entirely handcrafted in Kakegawa, Japan, featuring European spruce soundboards, Yamaha’s patented A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) wood maturation process, and pure copper bass strings wound by hand. The result is the warmth, depth, and responsive touch of a concert instrument — scaled for the conservatory, the recital hall, and the serious pianist’s home.
The CF Series is Yamaha’s flagship — handcrafted in the Concert Piano Workshop in Kakegawa, Japan, where the company’s most experienced master builders shape every instrument by hand. The CFX, CF6, and CF4 share hand-molded, sand-cast iron frames, top one-percent European spruce soundboards, German felt hammers paired with walnut, and bass strings wound individually in pure copper. Every CF is voiced, regulated, and tuned by master technicians before it leaves the workshop. For the professional pianist, the conservatory, or the collector, the CF is the instrument against which other pianos are measured.
