The GC Series sits between the home grand and the conservatory instrument. Built in Kakegawa, Japan alongside Yamaha’s professional-tier pianos, the GC1M at five feet three inches and the GC2 at five feet eight share the robust back post design, two-piece separated bridges, V-Pro frame, and hand-selected spruce soundboards from Yamaha’s Kitami Mill in Hokkaido.
Both are available as pure acoustics, with the SH3 Silent system, with TA3 TransAcoustic, or as a DGC1 or DGC2 Disklavier.
The GC1M at five feet three inches and the GC2 at five feet eight are the pure acoustic GCs. Both carry the V-Pro frame, the Kitami Mill spruce soundboard, and the two-piece separated bridges that give the series its tuning stability and tonal depth. The GC2’s extra five inches buy longer bass strings and a larger soundboard, which is what you hear in the low end.
The DGC1 and DGC2 are genuine GC acoustic grands with Yamaha’s ENSPIRE ST reproducing system fitted at the factory. The real keys and pedals move and the real strings sound as a performance plays back, and the same system records what you play, note for note. Silent Piano practice through headphones is included.
The GC1 SH3 and GC2 SH3 add Yamaha’s SH3 Silent system. Lower the mute bar and the hammers stop short of the strings, sending your playing to headphones voiced from binaural CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial samples, with the full weight of the grand action still under your fingers. The GC1 TA3 goes further, turning the spruce soundboard itself into the speaker so digital voices resonate through the body of the piano at any volume, with no headphones required.
